Awesome RV Solar Panels
Capture Power While On The Road

Recreational Vehicle Accessories | Solar Panels

Various recreational vehicle solar panels are available for you to purchase if you want to put them on your recreational vehicle. The solar panels make sense. You're on the road in your RV and need electrical power…Why not get it from the sun?

If your mode of traveling happens to be in one of these homes on wheels, solar panels may be just for you.

You can turn your recreational vehicle into a solar power machine that will generate power even when you're in out of the way places.

Take advantage of the same technology that NASA uses to power today's satellites. There is no denying the facts about solar energy. You can harness the suns power with an accessory for your RV!

Millions of Americans use RV's each year for camping, vacations, traveling or just to get away from it all. The power consumption of RV's is not high but the cost of connection charges at RV parks and the batteries you go through can really add up.

Fortunately, there are RV solar panels that can be used to provide you with either some or all of your DC power needs.

RV solar panels have been designed and are available for different consumption levels to fit your particular needs.

With solar panels you are not limited as to where you can park your RV anymore. You can vacation anywhere that's sunny and have a good time while your power is being rejuvenated.

Solar energy facts tell us that if you get around five hours of sunlight each day, you should have enough electricity for your basic needs. Of course a backup generator will be required for things like air conditioning and a refrigerator.

The DC power generated by the solar panels is going to power things in your RV like lighting, stereo, TV, water pump and other 12-volt appliances. You can get an inverter that will convert the DC power to AC power so that you can use it for things like a blender, toaster, vacuum, satellite, DVD player and microwave oven.

There are many benefits of using RV solar panels.

Benefits Include

  • Quiet, clean, out of sight and easy to use.- They require no fuel or mechanical engine adjustments or maintenance. They produce no noise or waste making them environmentally friendly. Just get them in the sun and they will work while you play!

  • Constant DC Power - Batteries get saturated with energy on a continual basis that keeps the battery running in tip-top condition extending the life of the batteries.

  • Electrical Freedom - With RV solar panels that are matched to your consumption, you are able to travel wherever you want and be free from finding auxiliary power sources.

  • Low Maintenance - All you have to do is keep the surface of the panels clean and you should be in good shape.

  • Safe and Reliable - If everything is installed using the right size wires and components, the system should be danger free and very reliable. The warranties on some panels are as long as 25 years with life expectancy beyond that.

  • Flexible and Light - The solar panels do not add significantly to the weight of the vehicle and offer a number of different mounting options.

Installing Solar Panel(s)

You can get RV solar panels installed or you can buy DIY solar power kits and install them yourself. Kits usually come with directions for easy installation. Also included with a kit are the Solar Panel(s), mounting hardware, charge controller and wiring harness.

The least costly way to outfit your vehicle with RV solar panels is to mount them on the top. If you have chosen a fixed system and have decided to install it yourself, you do run the risk of damaging your RV with holes that you probably will need to drill into the top.

Another consideration for attaching the panels is to use an appropriate tape application instead of drilling holes.

Other Considerations

If you have the money, arranging for the solar panels to be installed by a professional would be advisable. Check with your dealer before you purchase the solar power kit to see if they have a good return policy. Knowing the return policy is useful if you experience any problems with the system.

Don't forget to compensate for the overall height of your vehicle after installation of solar panels for obvious reasons.

Batteries will need to be purchased separately because they are not ordinarily included with a system. Most systems require deep cycle batteries that provide a constant discharge unlike car batteries.

Some people prefer the mobile solar panels instead of the attached panels. With a mobile solar power kit, the panels can be removed with ease and there is no drilling to harm the beauty or soundness of your recreational vehicle. You need to be the judge of that.

Tax Credits

RV solar panels have even been given attention by the government! A tax credit is available from the federal government for 30% of the entire installation costs. The federal government treats the RV as a second home. Consult with your accountant for further information and available state tax credits prior to purchasing.

Happy touring in your power generating RV!
