What are some of the debt reduction programs that are available to reduce credit card debt? The three that follow are for your consideration.

Debt Consolidation Loan

A new loan is originated that will payoff all of the higher interest rate credit card loans. It is much easier to manage one payment then a variety of payments.

The downside is that there is still an impact on your credit score as reported by credit agencies but not as severe as there would be if you went through with debt settlement. New credit will not be extended until you start showing that you are making regular payments.

You also have to make certain that the debt consolidation company you employed is making the payments for you as they agreed.

Debt Settlement or Reduction

You employ a company to go to work for you after they review your financial circumstances. They go directly to your creditors and negotiate the balances you owe to a lesser amount. Debt Management

Debt management companies are often non-profit organizations. They work with you to help you get a handle on their finances. They provide the tools so that you can follow a budget and adhere to a financial plan. They don't offer any loans or negotiation services but do offer schedules so that you can get back on track.

There are a number of religious organizations that offer you help to reduce credit card debt free of change. It doesn't hurt to check with them first.


Both debt settlement and debt consolidation companies can help you reduce credit card debt and even eliminate it in some cases. But each will have consequences for your credit score as reported by credit agencies. This will also have and effect on your future financial options. Before choosing either option, you need to reach a level of comfort regarding the pros and cons of each program.
