- If your doctor prescribes a medication for you, ask if you can get free samples while at the doctors office. This will at least save on the first prescription. If you have a financial hardship you can apply to the maker of the medication and possibly get a break on the price.
- Consider lower priced personal care and makeup items. There are many high quality items out which are more competitively priced.
- Buy your dog or cat food at the warehouse store. It is much cheaper and you can get a large container with a sealing lid to
keep it fresh. Pet stores have nice containers for this type of storage. - Make your own coffee and avoid the over the counter expensive coffee and lattes.
- Avoid printing anymore then is absolutely necessary. Print on both sides of the paper when possible. This is not only one of our frugal tips, it also qualifies as Living Green. The little stuff all adds up!
- Negotiate the price of larger ticket items including cars, appliances and electronics. Also ask if there are any scheduled or anticipated sales that are coming up in the future prior to your purchase. Negotiating wisely is one of the practical money saving tips that you need to take advantage of.
- Some theme parks, zoos, galleries and theaters have coupon specials available that you can enjoy. They may also have annual passes available as well. This can be a source for reasonably priced entertainment especially if they have some free coupons!
- College campuses have a wide assortment of entertaining events, performances, displays, festivals, productions, sporting events and more. Many of these are free or very inexpensive.
- Head for the great outdoors. There are many parks loaded
with amenities throughout the United States that you can enjoy free of charge. - If you plan on investing in mutual funds, invest in low cost or index mutual funds. Verify low loads, low management fees and that they have no exit or redemption fees before purchasing.
The following is one of our frugal tips when it comes to buying something that you don't have the money for. It will help you if you get used to saying to yourself: "I can't fit it into my budget at this time,"instead of saying "I can't afford it." It is a more positive outlook having control of a budget as opposed to feeling like you're being deprived. After all, it is you that has control.
