Cheap Gas Locator -
Finding Cheap Gas Stations

It's always a plus to find cheap gas stations to save a few bucks when you fill-up your vehicle. If you want to find the best price on gas in your area here's a suggestion.

Go to the address bar in your browser and type in your city followed by "gasprices.com" and you will get a listing of gas prices for the various grades and and a cheap gas locator for your area.

You can also try "gasbuddy.com" or "gaspricewatch.com." This should work for most metropolitan areas to find the cheapest gas prices. Finding cheap gas is one way to save but what about other ways.

Whether you drive a small hybrid or large SUV, there is a good chance that you can get more mileage out of your gallons. It would be a good idea to try to get the best gas mileage out of your car. If you want to work toward saving gasoline money while putting less pollution into the environment then we have some saving ideas for you.

Following these simple tips can help you get the best gas mileage and save you money.

The kind of vehicle you choose to own has a big impact on your fuel economy but the way you drive and maintain your vehicle matters just as much.

  1. The easiest way to save gas is to simply drive less. Think about the trips that you make during the week and find a way to consolidate them.

  2. Drive a smaller car. Consider a hybrid or one of the new alternate fuel vehicles.

  3. Don't have loyalty to so called "top brands." Find the best price out of a group of stations and buy there. Gas is pretty much all the same except for some minor additives.

  4. Avoid excessive acceleration and aggressive driving. Speeding up quickly and driving aggressively not only eats up gas, it also pollutes a lot more then driving normally.

According to the Department of Energy aggressive driving at highway and in town speeds increase your fuel use by 33% and 5% respectively. If you follow this advice you won't be looking for cheap gas stations as often.

  5. Brake slowly. Braking aggressively is using more gas then you need to get around.

  6. Driving the speed limit is important. Slow down. Driving 70 mph verses 60 mph will use about 10% more gas.

  7. Stop and go driving eats up the gas and puts more pollutants into the air. Try to avoid rush hour when there is a lot of traffic.

  8. Don't carry any extra heavy items in your car that you don't need. This too reduces fuel economy and will have you looking for cheap gas stations sooner then you thought.

  9. Keep all of your errands for one day and do them together in one long string. A warmed up car runs more efficiently and reduces emissions then one that is cold and started up several times.

  10. Minimize the use of the air conditioning. Get the hot air out of the car by lowering the windows before turning on the AC. Conversely, turn the AC on and keep the windows up yields better fuel economy at higher speeds.

  11. Keep tires properly inflated. Your tires only need to be below the recommended pressure by a small amount to reduce fuel economy.

The recommended tire pressure will be in the owner's manual or on the doorjamb of the vehicle. Only inflate the tires when they are cool. Go to a service station after driving less then a mile to inflate your tires.

  12. When you need new tires specify low-rolling-resistance tires. These have been designed according to the manufacturer to increase your fuel economy.

  13. Get a tune-up at recommended intervals. This could drastically increase your fuel economy. Try using a gas mileage calculator to see the difference.

  14. Follow the manufactures maintenance schedule including engine oil change, drive train fluid replacement, air filter replacement, brake adjustment or replacement and wheel alignment just to name a few. Staying on top of the maintenance schedule will keep your vehicle running smoothly and use less fuel.

  15. Use regular gasoline unless your owner's manual specifies otherwise. You will be wasting money on the mid and upper grade even at the cheap gas stations.

  16. Park in the shade in the summer to keep your car cool and minimize evaporation of fuel.

  17. Look ahead of you as you drive so that you can gauge your speed and minimize braking depending on what is happening ahead.

  18. Check your mileage every now and then to see how you are doing. If you see a big change then you will know that there is a problem that needs attention.

  19. Drive in the highest possible gear, use overdrive and avoid using an "extra power" automatic transmissions feature.

  20. Use cruise control to help you maintain a steady speed that yields better gas mileage. In hilly terrain the cruise control overcompensates for the hills and for this reason is not advised. Cruise control works best on flat terrain.

  21. Avoid excessive idling. You are obviously getting no miles to the gallon. With modern cars it is cheaper to turn the car off and restart it then to sit there and idle.

  22. Keep your car clean and waxed. There is less drag on a car that is clean and polished and this may especially add up on long highway trips.

  23. Look for cheap gas stations before the holidays. Gas prices traditionally go up during holidays.

  24. A global positioning system (GPS) will help you determine the shortest distance between two locations.

Finding cheap gas stations is only part of the equation to cutting you expense on gasoline. Follow these tips and see your overall gas consumption drop as you continue to save.
